Kahtoola Microspikes bags top award

Backpacker’s GOLD Editor’s Choice 2012 goes to the Kahtoola Microspikes this year.

Microspikes

After the start of Winter we’ve had in New Zealand, there’s no question to why these shouldn’t win awards.  These crampons are the middle ground for those routes that go beyond the treeline and venture into ice and light snow covered areas.

They fit any type of tramping or hiking shoe and are so easy to put on with the rubber grip material.

Not only do the steel teeth grip the ground like a kea’s talons, they also never move out of place and ’the secure attachment doesn’t slip or shift’ according to the editor of Backpacker Magazine, great news for undulating and rough terrain.  The 2012 model has even been updated with an ‘easy-on’ heel which makes taking them on and off child’s play.
