The Bikila is aptly named after 1960 Olympic Marathon Gold medalist Abebe Bikila who set a new record running barefoot as it leads the barefoot running shoes revolution - designed specifically for a comfortable and natural running experience. It features a 3mm polyurethane insole, thicker under the ball of your foot, and a 4mm anatomical pod outsole design that offers more plating protection. The upper is smooth and breathable while the sole offers traction over varied terrain and the toes have tear resistant TPU protection. Reflective surfaces on the strap and heel provide low light safety.

How to measure:

For best results in finding your size we recommend measuring both feet, heel to toe:
1. Standing with your heels against a flat wall slide ruler under each foot
2. Be sure to measure the end of the longest toe
3. Take the longer of the two measurements
If your foot length varies by more than 0.4cm, it will be difficult to get a precise fit for both feet.
If your second toe is more than 0.4cm longer than your big toe it will be difficult to get a precise fit

Fitting instructions:

With the single strap fully open, insert your foot while gradually aligning each toe with the appropriate toe pocket - it’s often best to start with your big toe and work down to the little toe, gradually inching forward as each toe finds its place. Check to make sure one toe is in each pocket.
AFTER each toe is in place, pull up the heel cup and nestle your own heel into the FiveFingers heel cup. It’s important to get your heel firmly seated in the heel cup.
Pull the single strap closure across your instep and secure. Make sure the strap lies flat as it wraps around the foot. Wiggle your toes and adjust the strap to find your ideal FiveFingers comfort.

Good fit as defined by Fivefingers:

When your heal is seated comfortably into the back of the shoe once all of your toes are inside each toe pocket. When you stand up your toes should be comfortable, relaxed and flat.

There should be a bit of space at the end of each toe pocket and a bit of space around the heal to allow for swelling after exercise or wearing on a hot day, anywhere from 1mm to 5mm is good for the toes. It’s acceptable for one of your toes to be just touching the end of the toe pocket but nothing more. You should avoid a tight fit where your toes are right at the end of the pockets as tight does not allow the toes or foot to move naturally.

The one comment we regularly get is that the little toe feels funny. Of all the toes, the little toe is the one that gets pushed into the foot the most as a result of the less than natural footwear we wear in modern society. This sensation is simply the little toe being gently encouraged back out, this sensation dissipates very quickly within a few minutes.

A minor adjustment period is normal while you are breaking in your feet. This should disappear after a week or two of use. Remember to break your feet in gradually to minimise discomfort.
