Questions on FiveFingers Women's Bikila Running Shoe
-
From Sonya on 31/08/11
- Hi, I have just started running again and am using my good adidas running shoes with my especially made orthotics and am getting bad hip pain, I had this only once before and found rest, physio and exercises helpful however I've never had this kind of pain previous to this. I'm tempted to try these new five finger shoes but an relutant to spend so much money if they arent the right thing to do so I guess my question is have people found this five finger shoe helpful for joint pain. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Sonya - Hi Sonya, The use of fivefingers running shoes tend to make you run more naturally, with less heel strike and more forefoot running. By removing the heel lift our hips are moved back to their natural alignment, taking the load off the facet joints in the lower back. Running shoes tend to alter our biomechanical loading on limbs which can lead to joint and muscle pain.
I have included a link for you to look at, it gives you lots of information about the way Fivefingers work. http://www.fivefingers.co.nz/Home.html If you are unsure as to whether these will help you at all, it is suggested that over the next couple of weeks do some barefoot running on concrete and see if this reduces the joint pain. Work your way into it as your body will be used to running shoes and it can take a while to readjust and re-align to barefoot running. I hope this helps. Thanks
