Before the start of Godzone adventure race we were not at all keen on the idea of using walking poles but at 260g for both of them, we figured we might as well throw them in our Osprey Hornets just in case someone blew a knee or rolls an ankle.
By the end of the first trek (27hours) we was so glad we decided to take the poles. Easily folded away when not being used, they were great for climbing up scree slopes and looking after our knees on steep descents.
There was some question as to how durable they would be given that they were so light. But 4 poles were used (1 each) for the majority of the trekking legs and we didn't see a single fault with them in some of New Zealand's toughest terrain.

Technology
Black Diamond Z-Poles use their exclusive Rapid Deployment System that features a single push-button release to collapse and deploy the pole. This push-button is linked to a concealed inner cord and speed cone within each shaft section for unrivalled strength, stability and fast deployment in a foldable trekking pole.
Care
Debris such as dirt, sand, or mud can build up inside your Z-poles, making the shafts difficult to slide or pull apart at the joints. To clean them, push the release button to collapse the poles. Wash the joints and tube ends under running water and use a cloth to wipe debris away. Repeat several times if necessary to remove all debris. Leave Z-Poles folded in a warm, dry environment to dry all water out of the shafts and joints before the next use.
To clean dirt and sweat out of foam grips and straps, rub them in between your fingers while running them under cool water. Do not use soap!
