Technology

WAAS: Wide Area Augmentation System. It's a system of satellites and ground stations that provide GPS signal corrections, giving you even better position accuracy. How much better? Try an average of up to five times better. A WAAS-capable receiver can give you a position accuracy of better than three meters 95 percent of the time. And you don't have to purchase additional receiving equipment or pay service fees to utilize WAAS. If you want to know more visit the Garmin site page on WAAS.

  • From Charles Reid on 17/06/10

    • I will be traveling from Auckland to Wellington in July and I am looking for a good gps I can use both on the road and on the trail. Does this unit have NZ streets loaded on the base map? Is there another GPS you would recommend for this application?

      Thanks
    • Hi Charles, All of the GPS we carry have a worldwide basemap loaded, however this does not include the NZ street maps. You can buy Topo4GPS software http://www.bivouac.co.nz/memory-map-topo-4-gps-1.html that is compatible with the Dakota 20, however this is not as detailed as a standard topographical map and only has a basic street view, so if you are looking at these GPS for street and track navigational purposes they are more of a subsidiary or quick reference to the more detailed paper maps. If the majority of what you need is street navigation you may be better off with a car GPS. Thanks
  • From David Castle on 14/09/11

    • What is the maximum capacity the SDHC card will the Dakota 20 take? I have seen conflicting reports varying between 4GB, 16GB and unlimited
    • Hi David, I have spoken with the supplier of Garmin and they recommend not using anything bigger than a 4GB MicroSD card in the Dakota 20. Thanks
