The Ice Line is a must have rope for ice climbers and expert climbers for its extreme fluidity and very low impact force. Its thinness makes for an exceptionally free running rope but also demands appropriate and specific belaying technique. UNICORE® technology, indispensable on a thin rope, prevents sheath slippage and bunching and, due to the bonding between the core and the sheath, will allow you to escape by abseil even if the sheath is cut, giving you extra security. This rope also has a Golden Dry treatment of the core plus a Dry Cover sheath to provide more resistance to ice and water and reduced weight gain in wet conditions as well as better resistance to abrasion, dust and water.

Features

  • A rope for ice climbers and expert climbers
  • The weight and free-running of twin tope plus the advantages of a double rope
  • Ultra low impact force
  • The rope doesn't bunch up, and remains supple for the long term
  • Sharp edge resistance - possesses all the advantages conferred by the UNICORE® technology (prevents sheath slippage, sheath bunching and allows escape by abseil even if the sheath is cut)
  • A Golden Dry rope is a rope with the core Dry treated, and a sheath of Dry Cover which gives you a rope with astonishing water impermeability and incredible durability
  • Every filament of the sheath and core of Golden Dry ropes is treated with a water repellent chemical that is polymerised at high temperatures for durability before the rope is manufactured resulting in a rope that gains little weight when wet, thickens only minimally, has improved abrasion resistance and has improved running when passed through carabiners and belay devices
  • Sheath percentage = 41%
  • Water absorption: Beal Guarantee = 1.5%, UIAA laboratory = <5%
  • 3 year guarantee (normal wear and tear, modifications or alterations, bad storage, bad maintenance, accidental damage, negligence, and/or uses for which the product was not designed excluded)

Care
  • A rope must not be allowed contact with chemical agents, particularly acids which may destroy the fibres without visible evidence
  • Avoid unnecessary exposure to UV, store the rope in a cool, shaded place, away from dampness and direct heat
  • It is preferable to use a rope sack for transporting and for laying the rope out at the base of the cliff to protect against dirt and reduce twisting
  • If the rope is dirty, it may be washed in clear cold water, if necessary with a washing agent designed for delicate textiles, using a brush made with synthetic bristles
  • If the rope is wet, after use or washing, leave to dry in a cool, shaded place
  • Before and after each use inspect the rope visually and manually along its entire length
  • This product must be inspected periodically and meticulously, every 3 months if in frequent use, annually for occasional use
  • The rope is personal equipment. During any use away from you it may be subject to grave damage, which may not be visible.
  • If a rope is cut into a number of lengths, repeat and affix to each new end the markings of the original ends
  • Retired the rope:
    • if it has held a major fall, approaching fall factor 2
    • if inspection reveals or even indicates damage to the core
    • if the sheath is very worn
    • if it has been in contact with any active or dangerous chemicals
    • if there is the slightest doubt about its security
Technologies

UNICORE technology: an astonishing process, bonding rope sheath and core without affecting the rope's suppleness. If the sheath is cut or torn, the core and sheath remain bonded together so the sheath remains in place allowing you to escape through either ascent or descent whilst taking the necessary precautions. With a standard rope, if the sheath is cut by abrasion over an edge, a frequent occurrence in the mountains, it slides and gathers over some metres and it then becomes impossible to pass this zone, whether ascending or descending. UNICORE technology prevents all sheath slippage and is therefore particularly useful in wet snow and ice conditions such as you may encounter in alpine and ice climbing where the risk of sheath slippage is largely increased. The UNICORE process is compatible with the waterproofing and anti-abrasion treatments on ropes and also provides a durable resistance to moisture.

Golden Dry: Every strand of a 'Golden Dry' rope's sheath and the core is treated with a water repellent chemical before the rope is manufactuOrange. This chemical covering is polymerised at high temperature. The durability of this treatment is due to the polymerisation as well as the individual treatment of each filament prior to production. A Golden Dry rope is a rope with the core Dry treated and a sheath of Dry Cover. Golden Dry:

  • Very limited weight gain in wet conditions
  • Prevents the rope thickening too much
  • Improved rope-running through carabiners and belay devices
  • Improved abrasion resistance in normal climbing use

UIAA Water Repellent: a requirement for hydrophobic ropes that came into force in 2014. A rope that passes this test qualifies as 'UIAA Water Repellent'. Beal's GOlden Dry ropes easily pass this test. A non treated rope absorbs between 40 and 50% of water in this test. Brief summary of the test:

  • A rope sample is subjected to light abrasion over its entire surface, equivalent to a few days use
  • It is then soaked for 15 minutes following a precise procedure
  • THe amount of absorbed water must be less than 5% of the sample's weight
