Born in Australia and now residing in Canada, John spent time in New Zealand up until six years ago and made good use of his time here, taking advantage of the relatively easy access to the Southern Alps.

John was an active staff-member working at Bivouac and in was also part of the Bivouac sponsored New Zealand 2014 Anidesha Chuli Expedition to Nepal. Here he teamed up with ex-Bivouac Dunedin manager (now full-time professional author) Paul Hersey and his wife, accomplished climber Shelley Hersey.

Since leaving New Zealand, John has travelled extensively and is now based in Canada, where he has established himself as a world class adventure photographer. The connection with Bivouac has remained and a number of the incredible, eye-catching images captured by John have proudly formed the basis of our advertisements since 2014.

John’s images predominantly cover the sport of climbing, both rock climbing and mixed/ice climbing; categories of which Bivouac Outdoor is dominant within the New Zealand retail market. Combined with a large number of our staff active in the climbing community, we confidently assert the claim that we ARE climbing!
