Z-Pole Rapid Deployment Sytem:

  • Concealed inner cord
  • Single push-button release to collapse the pole
  • One-pull, Speed Cone deployment
  • Speed Cone technology comes from Black Diamond's expertise in avalanche probe design - a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole's Kevlar® center cord when folded.

FLICKLOCK® PRO: is the evolution of Black Diamond's trusted FlickLock® design. The benefits that made their classic FlickLock® design one of the best pole-locking mechanism on the market remain: it's secure, fast and easy to use. The Pro's new low-profile, stainless steel design, however, provides a dramatic improvement in quality, feel and clamping force.

Z-pole series Trekking Poles:

Before and after each use, check to see that the adjustment mechanisms open and close smoothly and are tensioned properly.

  • Make sure nothing is deformed or broken
  • Store the FlickLock mechanisms for long periods with the tension released
  • Should the poles get wet during use, release the tension cord (with the push button), collapse the pole and allow to dry completely before storage
  • If the FlickLock mechanisms become hard to open or close, apply a drop of oil on the lever pin and another underneath the lever where it rotates on the housing
  • Replacement parts may be obtained from your local Black Diamond dealer or directly from Black Diamond

Periodic Cleaning:

Debris such as dirt, sand, or mud can build up inside your Z-poles, making the shafts difficult to slide or pull apart at the joints. To clean them, push the release button to collapse the poles. Wash the joints and tube ends under running water and use a cloth to wipe debris away. Repeat several times if necessary to remove all debris. Leave Z-Poles folded in a warm, dry environment to dry all water out of the shafts and joints before the next use.

To clean dirt and sweat out of foam grips and straps, rub them in between your fingers while running them under cool water. Do not use soap!

To clean cork grips, use some very fine, waterproof sandpaper and a bar of ordinary hand soap. Wet the grip and sand thoroughly. Apply soap to the sandpaper and gently rub the grip. Rinse and let dry.
