Icebreaker Outdoor/Travel Layers are a versatile system of interchangeable Merino layering pieces ranging from essential core garments to seasonal trend-driven styles you can wear across seasons and continents, either on their own or layered up when conditions get a bit cooler.
Next-to-skin/first layer and mid layer garments are soft and non-itch, temperature regulating, breathe to prevent clamminess, resist odour and on top of that are very easy to care for (including no need to iron) - just what you need when travelling. Wear them solo or layered up in cooler weather.
Cool-lite™ fabric has been added to the range and combines Merino wool and TENCEL®, a fibre made from sustainably produced plants, so bringing together two natural, low environmental impact fibres. The high natural moisture content of TENCEL® keeps you cool in the heat yet remains dry to the touch and is 60-70% cooler than Merino fabrics as well as having exceptional wicking abilities (50% more moisture absorbed than cotton and dries twice as fast as polyester).
Merino Corespun has been added as a breakthrough in durability. In this fabric a nylon core has been added for extra strength with Merino fibre wrapped around it for next-to-skin softness, temperature regulation and odour resistance.
Mid layers:
Sweaters are a versatile collection that has every occasion covered - from a hike in the hills to a night out on holiday. Layer sweaters over Icebreaker base layers and lightweight layers for instant warmth when the temperatures drop. Includes a stylish collection of exclusive knitwear made from an exceptionally fine micron of Merino wool, grown in New Zealand's rugged Southern Alps. The Merino is knitted into a fine gauge to create a stylish collection of exclusive knitwear, special garment features include raglan sleeves with fully-fashioned details, shoulder darts, ergonomic side seams for a superior fit, and ribbing at the hem, cuff and neckline.
RealFLEECE™ is Icebreaker's natural, luxurious, brushed Merino alternative to a synthetic fleece and offers instant warmth and luxury. The insulation-to-weight value is very high - super lightweight considering the insulation provided. RealFLEECE™ also has a very soft, luxurious fell thanks to its smooth, air-permeable jersey finish. The interior is a terry knit construction with the loft being brushed to create air pockets that trap air and retain body heat. Now reengineered to be lighter, warmer and stronger. A nylon core has been added to allow Icebreaker to brush even lighter weight fabrics increasing their insulation value yet keeping them thin and light. LYCRA® has also been added to improve the stretch and recovery of the garments making them Icebreaker's best fitting mid layers to date. So stylish, RealFLEECE™ works as well in the city as it does in the outdoors.
RealFLEECE™Nano is RealFLEECE™combined with water resistant nano technology. Lightweight and low bulk, they're ideal for hiking and other outdoor activities. Water resistant nanotechnology is where tiny nanotechnology particles create a ridge surface that repels water, mud and oil bringing the added benefits of water resistance and stain resistance to garments
Outdoor Jackets completes the Outdoor/Travel Layers with an exciting range of urban styles. Warm as well as windproof, these soft, breathable jackets provide the ultimate protection against the elements. Some garments now have MerinoLOFT® insulation to combine with Merino and organic cotton or recycled polyester face fabric treated with a DWR (durable water resistant) finish for warmth and protection, as well as breathablility and odour control, in cold conditions. MerinoLOFT™: is the first ever down insulation to use the highly breathable and superior thermal retention of Merino wool - 10% of which is created from Icebreaker Merino scraps.
Care
Icebreaker garments almost look after themselves as they don't hold moisture or odour. In fact, the known record for wearing an Icebreaker non-stop is 196 days in extreme conditions. Here are a few tips to get the best out of your Icebreaker.
Washing Instructions:
Use warm or cool machine wash on normal cycle with regular powder or liquid detergent, not wool detergent
For its first wash, wash the garment separately (after 2 to 3 days use) to remove any loose fibres and avoid pilling
Wash with like colours
Wash on a normal cycle with other hard fabrics (e.g. denim) to remove fluffing
Never use a fabric softener
Do not use detergents with bleach
Do not tumble dry - dry flat in the shade or on the clothes line
Note: Hand washing can enable a residual build up of perspiration which could contribute to an odour problem.
