Altra's Olympus 6 is a great cushioned zero drop shoe for trail runners and long distance hikers alike. The wide toe box allows plenty of room for the toes to splay, great for those with foot widths between normal and on the wider side of normal. Vibram mega grip soles and traction are well suited to muddy tracks, shedding mud well. The wide base provides ultimate stability underfoot. The woven mesh upper is hardier than that of the Altra Lone Peak, though still prone to the classic weak point where the toes flex.

After years of wearing the Lone Peaks, these trail runners have become my gold standard for functional, multipurpose footwear. The lightweight construction makes them perfect for trail running and day hikes with the durability to standup to multiday backpacking trips and mountain environments. The Vibram sole easily grips any surface providing confidence on technical terrain and the zero drop footbed facilitates a more natural gait with lighter heel strikes on hard surfaces. The wide toe box provides ample room for toes to spread out during activities. The mesh upper surface helps them to dry quickly after river crossings without allowing too much dust into the shoe while maintaining the durability to hold up to repeated rock snags. I would recommend these shoes to anyone looking to move fast and light over any terrain for hours or days on end.

If you are someone who loves going barefoot and splaying your toes, when it comes to hitting the trails, Altra provides great shoe options. The Olympus with its zero drop and wide to box provide a great shape for normal to wide feet. A second hole for tying you laces allow room to tie a heel lock loop with your laces should you want to feel more snug in the heel pocket. The max cushion in the Olympus 6 makes them ideal for longer hikes and technical trail running. The Vibram mega grip soles with traction lugs provide stability in the New Zealand backcountry.
