My partner uses this pack on any of our multi day tramps where he wants to go lightweight but bring a few more comforts than when he goes fast packing. This pack is quite minimal but has everything you could need. The roll top closure allows you to compress the pack down easily as well as offering a lighter option than zips. The Sailcloth Ultra 200 fabric has this odd crinkly static feeling that is light weight and extremely durable. Additionally, the inner is seam sealed, making this pack waterproof and ready to bee used in all weather conditions. The outer mesh is super roomy as it's basically the whole length of the pack. We normally stash away rubbish, dirty clothes and rain jackets. The running vest inspired harness makes it super comfy to carry, means the pack fits nice and close to your back which allows you to move faster and has the benefit of holding a flask to drink on the move.

Fit tip:
Comfy for a fastpacking pack

For me, its sweet spot is a trip where I want to move fairly light but still have room for the gear the conditions demand.

Fit tip:
I’ve found the sizing runs quite small. Try it on with some weight in it and see where the shoulder straps and hip belt sit before you choose a size.

At under 1Kg, this is one of the best ultralight back packs on the market! Balancing weight and comfort perfectly, Exos Pro 55 is minimalist in design while keeping all the handy feature you want while hiking. Front pouch, dual access drink bottle pockets and hip belt pockets are included. While the pack still has the brain of the bag protecting the drawstring opening, this too can be stripped off with a small flap taking it's place for protection from the rain. Ideal for the speed and comfort combo on long multiday hikes, or the likes of Te Araroa trail. Ultralight material by its nature, is thinner, lighter and less abrasion resistant. As long as off trail bush bashing isn't in on you itinerary, this is a great light weight pack choice!

The Speed 40 is designed as a lightweight alpine climbing pack. If you want to prioritize a pack that allows you the flexibility to custom how lightweight you want it to be and don't care much for something super comfortable, then this is the pack for you. You can choose to remove the hip belt fully, remove the top lid while still having a protective lid underneath. There are two straps designed to carry your crampons on the outside of your pack. The downside here is definitely the lack of padding throughout the back panel and lack of support to carry heavy loads well. This pack is good for someone looking for something streamlined and wanting the flexibility to strip down the pack to be able to move in more technical terrain without the pack getting in the way.

Fit tip:
Not suited for heavy loads. Not the most comfortable pack.
  • New BD "X-rip" 210d Nylon body fabric with UTSâ„¢ (Ultra Tear Strength) coating
  • Top-loading, with removable lid, drawcord skirt closure and tuck-away rope strap
  • Surface-mounted glove-friendly main hood-buckles
  • Drawcord skirt provides easy access and keeps out spindrift and light precipitation
  • Moisture-wicking redesigned back-panel
  • Redesigned Shoulder Strap harness for improved comfort and durability
  • Welded front abrasion patch for improved protection against rock, ice and crampon spikes
  • New custom metal dogbone ice tool attachment with micro ice-tool PickPocketsâ„¢ to boost ice-tool security and removable 20mm crampon straps
  • Strippable design: removable frame sheet / bivy pad and removable hipbelt with fixed webbing belt
