The MOAB 3 are the classic hiking shoe that ticks all of the boxes if your foot fits the shoe. They are durable and lightweight. The non waterproof version is in my opinion the best option to go for if you know you are going to get your feet wet anyway or if you are mostly wearing them in warmer seasons. They will be much more breathable, cooler and will dry quicker than a waterproof shoe. The lugs are grippy. The only thing that could be a problem is the inner sole. If your foot has a low arch or your arch doesn't fit perfectly in the shoe, they will not feel comfortable at all! The fit is good for people with standard to wide feet but not square shaped feet.

Fit tip:

Standard to wide with medium to high arch support.

With the same classic features of the MOAB 3 WP shoes - arch support, wider fit, lightweight, part pic suede leather, part synthetic, breathable upper and super comfy - the MOAB 3 Mid WP boots offer extra ankle support for more uneven terrain, longer trips or simply if you are dealing with ankle problems when walking. I have found the higher arch support is not suitable for those with flatter arches.

Fit tip:

Good for medium to wide feet and medium to high arches

As a huge fan of the Merrell Moab Shoes, I was stoked to try these as an everyday or travel shoe. But unlike the Moab's the toe box is a much narrower fit. Aside from that, these are a very comfortable and supportive feeling shoe. They do have quite a significant rock to them, so they promote a faster cadence, feeling like they are propelling you forward. The cushion stack height is also quite high and for those used to a lower profile shoe may find unstable at first but quickly adjust. While not the right fit for me, I'd suggest these to anyone looking for a light trail or comfortable walking shoe for everyday or travel use.

Recently got these for day hikes/overnight trips where I wanted a bit more support/waterproofing, but still a lightweight shoe. Put them to the test on some very muddy tracks in Coromandel over Easter weekend and they were fantastic - mind you if the mud is deeper than your ankle you may be in some trouble. I have a higher arch and found these were very supportive and after 16kms my feet felt as though I hadn't even started the hike yet. I plan to use these on several Great Walks over the next year including the Routeburn, Kepler and Lake Waikaremoana. These are also the grippiest shoes I have ever used!

They fit to true to the US sizing, but are a slightly wider fit.
