Possibly the best sleeping mat for side sleepers? It's super comfy for anyone to use as it's thick enough that your shoulders/hips don't fall through to the ground when sleeping on your side. I'd recommend opting for the Long or Wide options depending on your height so that your feet don't fall off when rolling over. Not the lightest weight option out there - but if you value your sleep like me, this pad is definitely worth it in my opinion. Plus, when the last thing you want to do at the end of a long day is set up camp, this pad inflates in under 2 minutes using the pump bag it comes with - how good!

A good night’s sleep makes a big difference on a multi-day trip, and I slept well on the Ether Light XR during my six days around Great Barrier Island. I paired it with the Spark sleeping bag, and the setup worked well even when the weather turned. The mat has 10 cm of cushioning, insulation to reduce heat loss to the ground and a valve that lets you adjust the firmness. The pump sack being built into the stuff sack is a practical touch too. It’s a good option when sleeping comfort matters on consecutive nights out.

“I found it noticeably warmer than any other mat I have used, comfortable, quiet and light weight.”

For the weight, you'd be silly to go for anything less insulated. A true 4 season pad. Comfort wise, super plush and less noisy than other mats I've used and the face fabric grips better than the previous generation meaning less likelihood of sliding off during the night, especially with the larger outside baffles. Would go for the rectangle shape over the mummy as I feel the weight penalty is outweighed by the comfort increase this has added to my sleep system.

Fit tip:
At 177cm, medium is perfect for me
  • ULTRA range sleeping mats are ideal for ultralight, fast-paced adventures, like tramping, trekking and bikepacking, focussing on low eight and packability while maintaining excellent warmth
  • Recycled 20D ripstop polyester face fabric is soft to the touch and uses less water, energy and carbon during production
  • SynMat Plus Technology™: uses recycled synthetic microfibre filling for efficient insulation and heat retention, even in cold and damp conditions; combined with reflective layers it maximises warmth while maintaining a lightweight and durable structure
  • Welded baffles separate air chambers, create a cushioned and stable sleep surface and prevent cold spots
  • One-way inflate and deflate FlatValves provide industry-leading durability, reliability and intuitive performance for rapid inflation and deflation
  • Comfort Cradle™ air chambers run head-to-toe, fully supporting your body for an unrivalled night's sleep and increased durability; larger side rails to keep you centred on the mat
  • Secure your camping pillow to your sleeping mat by threading a pillow cord through the attached tabs
  • Schnozzel Pumpbag UL included for rapid, moisture-free mat inflation and doubles as waterproof compression bag
  • Contents: Mat, Schnozzel pumpbag, repair kit with glue and adhesive patches, stuff sack
