Moab Mid with their flexible Vibram soles provide great cushioning and mileage providing built in arch support well suited to those with mid arches. The padded tongue and support around the ankle provides great comfort. If you're transitioning to your first pair of boots from a hiking shoe, this soft boot is a great stepping stone. The likely point where these shoes will give first is the crease line where your toes flex, between the suede and synthetic material. This flexible soled shoe will mould well to most backcountry terrain around the bush line level. The waterproof will see you through streams with dry feet. If this doesn't work so effectively over time, cleaning and reproofing should revitalise the waterproof membrane.

Super comfy and supportive boots. Sole is a bit stiffer compared to some similar boots in this range, but still with enough flexibility to feel comfortable on longer hikes. Probably the best allrounder for most NZ hikes. I'm using them on multiday hikes and day hikes with heavier pack and more challenging terrains.

Fit tip:

This model is wide fit but in my opinion is closer to standard fit.

All the best things about the Ranger III, with upgrades to make the ideal boot for North Island hunters and trampers carrying heavy packs. Stiff enough to support heavy loads and fit crampons if needed, while remaining comfortable. The addition of the locking lace eyelets allows to split the lacing into 2 zones and loosen above the top of the foot, which I find great with a high arch.

Beloved boot of backcountry enthusiasts! This boot consists of a sole with just enough flex at the crease to remain incredibly comfortable on track, and in off track scrambles with stability from the ground up. Suitable for pack weights over 25kg this rugged boot has a rand circling the boot protecting the nubuck suede from damage in off track environments. Metal balls in the forward lacing of the boot allow laces to slide smoothly achieving ease in tight boot lacing, paired with the lace lock in the centre tongue of the boot, you can ensure a secure comfortable fit in the relatively wide fit boot.

These are the perfect mix of old school, supportive boot with all the new technology. Really suited for the people carrying heavier loads, venturing off track, or even doing the odd bit of winter stuff. They fit really snug around the ankles and feel that they're really supporting the weight all the way through from the toe to the heel, and the heavier leather upper will last well if taken care of, even if you're super hard on your boots or a bigger person. Pairing these boots with a full waterproof sock is a non-negotiable for me to keep my feet dry as a bone. They do take a bit of time to break in properly, so wouldn't be the move if you need immediate comfort, but they're sure to stand the test of time.
