All the best things about the Ranger III, with upgrades to make the ideal boot for North Island hunters and trampers carrying heavy packs. Stiff enough to support heavy loads and fit crampons if needed, while remaining comfortable. The addition of the locking lace eyelets allows to split the lacing into 2 zones and loosen above the top of the foot, which I find great with a high arch.

Stiff enough to support heavy loads and fit crampons if needed, while remaining comfortable. The addition of the locking lace eyelets allows to split the lacing into 2 zones and loosen above the top of the foot, which I find great with a high arch.

Beloved boot of backcountry enthusiasts! This boot consists of a sole with just enough flex at the crease to remain incredibly comfortable on track, and in off track scrambles with stability from the ground up. Suitable for pack weights over 25kg this rugged boot has a rand circling the boot protecting the nubuck suede from damage in off track environments. Metal balls in the forward lacing of the boot allow laces to slide smoothly achieving ease in tight boot lacing, paired with the lace lock in the centre tongue of the boot, you can ensure a secure comfortable fit in the relatively wide fit boot.

• Nubuck leather upper: 2.2-2.4mm full grain sanded nubuck leather upper is robust and durable to extend the life of your boots. It's also open pored for breathability while remaining fully waterproof.
• GORE-TEX® lining allows for moisture and sweat to escape while preventing water from entering from the outside
• Anatomically left and right shaped C4 Tongue reduces pressure on the instep and allows for improved flex and comfort
• X-Lacing® Stud: a patented LOWA technology that holds the tongue in place horizontally and vertically thus reducing tongue movement and preventing pressure and blisters
• Roller eyelets: small rollers in the metal eyelets allow for quick and easy lacing with minimal friction
• Medium Flex Stabiliser provides sturdy underfoot support while retaining forefoot flex through a full length and full width Nylon Stabiliser (5mm at the heel, tapering to 3mm at the forefoot)
• DuraPU® (polyurethane) midsoles have superior attributes to extend the life of the boots. Typically, more than 2.5 times more than EVA. They are a terrific shock absorber and rebound well for added cushioned comfort and will last longer on the trail. PU midsoles do not deform under heavy pack loads so you can carry more without compromising weight and flexibility
• SPS (Supination-Pronation-Supination) System helps control over-pronation and supination (feet rolling inwards or outwards) which reduces fatigue and potential injury when covering long distances through encouraging correct gait
• Vibram® App Trail Divo outsole features medium depth lugs for good grip on diverse terrain and a pronounced front profile which allows you to ascend with ease in challenging terrain. A pronounced heel break provides confidence in your descent as well. This outsole is resoleable.

Super comfy and supportive boots. Sole is a bit stiffer compared to some similar boots in this range, but still with enough flexibility to feel comfortable on longer hikes. Probably the best allrounder for most NZ hikes. I'm using them on multiday hikes and day hikes with heavier pack and more challenging terrains.

Fit tip:

This model is wide fit but in my opinion is closer to standard fit.

These are the perfect mix of old school, supportive boot with all the new technology. Really suited for the people carrying heavier loads, venturing off track, or even doing the odd bit of winter stuff. They fit really snug around the ankles and feel that they're really supporting the weight all the way through from the toe to the heel, and the heavier leather upper will last well if taken care of, even if you're super hard on your boots or a bigger person. Pairing these boots with a full waterproof sock is a non-negotiable for me to keep my feet dry as a bone. They do take a bit of time to break in properly, so wouldn't be the move if you need immediate comfort, but they're sure to stand the test of time.
